Our favorite Public Markets… so far
Our Favorite Public Markets
Through our travels we have had the good fortune to be able to visit quite a lot of amazing public markets, farmers markets and seafood markets around the world.
These are some of our favorites:
Borough Market, London
Borough Market, in London’s Southwark area along the south bank of the River Thames, is probably our favorite market. You will find tons of food stalls serving everything you could want; Boston Sausages, Indian Food, Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, fish & chips.. you name it.
In addition to take away food, there are also several butchers, fishmongers, cheese… whatever people with cheese are called, and our favorite stall… the wine booth. There they will open you a bottle of prosecco and hand you a couple of plastic cups and you can walk around the rest of the market sipping on some delightful, chilled prosecco.
Sydney Fish Market, Sydney
The Sydney Fish Market is another of our favorite markets. Just seeing all of the incredible and often strange fish and other creatures of the sea being unloaded from the boats straight into the market is amazing.
La Boqueria, Barcelona, Spain
We stumbled into La Boqueria as we were walking pretty aimlessly down La Rambla on our first day in Barcelona and immediately I fell in love with this place. It is a bit smaller that Borough Market for sure, but packed with great stuff. Honestly we couldn’t get out without tasting almost everything we found. The chocolate covered strawberries were the final straw though. Time to go once you get started on baseball size strawberries covered in chocolate.
Portobello Road, London, England
Portobello Market is definitely a destination you should work into your London visit, especially if you enjoy the gin as much as I do. Portobello Road Distillery is found about in the center of the market which is spread over about a mile or so of Portobello Road.
Great food vendors can be found as well as a lot of antique dealers and other craft type stuff.
